The David McCord - Ann Shaw Family Bible

The David McCord - Ann Shaw Family Bible is sent to us by Laura Forester, of Charlotte, NC, with the help of our McCord Family Association President Jim  McCord and Laura's  cousin Lyn Berry.  It is a unique and historic Bible.  1790 is written in ink on the Publication page (page 1) and one of the pages (page 2) says "Ann Shaw's Bible" and is dated "12th Mth 12th 1791".  The Bible was found in a Philadelphia antique store.  Laura is a descendant of David McCord through his son Charles and Charles' third wife, Hannah Luella Jackson.  Lyn Berry is a descendant through Charles and Charles' second wife, Charlotte Kirkhoff.

David McCord was the son of Mark McCord and his wife Catherine.  Mark McCord is named in the list of soldiers in the American Revolution from Pennsylvania.  He was a Corporal.  David's first wife was Ann Shaw and after her death he married Sarah Griscom Donaldson (the niece of Betsy Ross).  I mention this second marriage because their son, Charles, had a daughter, Eveline, who married Robert Adams.  The dramatic and romantic story of their love and courtship during the American Civil War is recorded in a recent movie, "The Last Confederate: The Story of Robert Adams".  The movie is Co-directed by Julian Adams and written by Julian & Weston Adams.  Julian and Weston both act in the characters of their ancestors in the movie.  Julian portrays Robert Adams and Weston portrays Grandfather Adams.  They descend from David and Charles McCord through Eveline McCord who was the daughter of Charles and his (Charles') first wife Malinda Hallar Davis.

There are four pages for research.  The first is the publication page and the second page is the page which, written in pen, gives the date and notes that it is, in fact, Ann Shaw's Bible.  Since the copies are difficult to read, I will give Laura and Lyn's interpretation of how they read the two pages of data (in Laura's words):

David McCord son of Mark and Catherine McCord his wife was born the first day [of] June in the year of our Lord A.D. 1772 [appears to be a hole where the “2” is, but from other documentation it is 1772 -- and it looks like someone added a very small “2” above the hole, no doubt at a later date]
